I'm sure I am not the first person to ask this, but I have found conflicting answers in different places and figured it couldn't hurt to ask directly for some more reliable information. I am very much looking forward to Venetica for the PC, but do need it to be in English, as I can't fluently read German unfortunately.
That said, my related questions are:
1. Is there an official target release date for a US PC version at this point?
2. Is there an "International" version that will release sooner with English as an option (how I buy a lot of releases) and if so, is there a release date for that?
3. Last, I am fairly sure that the German version doesn't include an option to install the game in English, but on the off chance it might, just wanted to confirm either way, if possible.
Thanks for the info, the October general date is what I had seen as well, I was hoping there was something more concrete, but not having a publisher locked down is definitely an issue. I think it is more likely to see an international version surface before a US release, which would be fine.
Noirone, I agree about the likeliness of a pushback, this seems to be something that happens a lot with German developed games unfortunately. They make great RPG's, but often it seems like no thought went into a world market outside of Germany. Drakensang had a rocky start and the Gothic series has had distribution woes as well. I had to buy Gothic 3 from New Zealand to get the version I wanted. (And then wondered why ) Don't even get me started on the problems with finding info on the distribution of Sacred 2's expansion, with three publishers and the developer Ascaron going bankrupt...
I'll just keep watching for an announcement, this looks like a creative and fun game that may not get the exposure it deserves on the world market.
Well, they have the English language trailer with voice acting... a demo in English shouldn't be far behind. This seems to be a game that will find a broad audience, with the somewhat cartoony graphics appealing to casual gamers and , from what I've seen in the demo, an immersive story and good gameplay for the more serious.
Coming from germany i can say it's worth waiting. It's a very nice game and the english version will probably be a lot more stable because it will be based on patch 1.02. (the german version 1.0 and 1.01 has/had some bugs).
I've played the German demo and I enjoyed it greatly, but from my (short) experience with the game and reading through the German forum section, the game has some performance issues.
I do not mind to wait, in my opinion it is best for the developer to take as much time as they need to optimize the engine & deliver a polished product. I've played the English version of Drakensang and the game ran flawlessly without any bugs (I can't say the same for Neverwinter Nights 2, for instance).
I too want to play Venetica, so much so that when I saw a copy on eBay which was listed as being both 'English/Russian' language, I bought it, sadly it turns out it wasn't able to be installed/played in English at all!, only in German with Russian subtitles I believe, so now I am stuck with a version of the game I can't play because I can't understand it... I wish I could Google translate the language files but I haven't the faintest idea of how to do it... at least then I'd at least read what's going on even if the spoken language is in German! I live in Australia and some games like these ones never see our shores, but it doesn't matter as I can always import them... I hope they release it soon. p.s. I'm also waiting for the German game 'The Book Of Unwritten Tales' but who knows when they will release this one also... German game makers ought to wise up and make their games multi-language from the start, it would allow them to reach a wider audience far sooner than releasing it in German-only first!
Whats said is that nobody from DTP or even Deck13. Have reassured us about Venetica or anything. We're clearly looking for information or we wouldn't be posting on the official forums because outside of her nobody seems to care about this game and I bet they wonder why! Makes me think If they've stopped developing the game and thrown it in the bin.
I've mailed last time to GCshop (a dutch webshop), because they had Venetica in their store. I've asked them which version they sell and how long it takes to deliver the game at home. After i few days i got response. Well, they will be selling the english version. The salesman from GCshop then tells that they don't know the exact releasedate, but due that the releases for this year are known GCshop expects that the game will be out Q1 2010. Shops like dimensionplus, freerecordshop, bol, haven't any info. It seems like the english version doesn't appear this year. Bad move this time from DTP Entertainment. They could at least inform the english players about the status of the english version of Venetica. In the meantime the german version is just for sale at the shop from DTP entertainment.
ehh, DTP is the publisher. Deck13 is the developer of the game. They have also published Drakensang and that game got also an English release. Here in the Netherlands Drakensang was released in March. Now i hope it doesn't got in the same way as Drakensang, because that game was released in Germany around November 2008 and in other countries in March 2009.

I really, really hope so. Myself and many other Xbox 360 RPG gamers are looking forward to Venetica a lot. Of course, though, it'll be nice to have Divinity II to hold us all over. Venetica is such a clean, whimsical, and fun looking RPG, though. It'll be sad if it never sees the light of day in the US. Get CDV to publish it. They seem to love these style of RPG's.
I've been waiting for this game for so long and to think that it may never get a US release, just breaks my gamer heart.
