Re: Ask Deck 13 and DTP A Question

Postby PrinceOfDeath on 08.06.2009, 20:35:17

Will you be able to acually have a small conversation with an NPC like select a few lines from some preset pieces of dialogue?

Do NPC's have a daily routine so will they go out to work and come home and sleep?

Will there be arena's where you can go and fight against hordes of enemys?

Whats the limit of the level you charector can level up to?

Can you be an all rounder eg have high stats in all skills at the same time?

Will there be some tutorial at the begining of the game?

Will there be some sort of barter option so you can get lower prices on loot :)

How does the death system work?

Lastly will the game arrive in October (RPGFan.com seems to think so at the end of there preview)

Some of the questions are probably not answerable lol.

PrinceOfDeath wrote:Will you be able to acually have a small conversation with an NPC like select a few lines from some preset pieces of dialogue?

Well, some NPCs just greet you (but will react differently regarding your reputation). Many other NPCs have more than just a few lines - you can trade with them, just get background information, get quests and sidequests, and learn skills from them.

Do NPC's have a daily routine so will they go out to work and come home and sleep?

Yes, and not only do they have their daily schedules, but they also all have homes (except the poor chaps that just go to the pub for the night...)

Will there be arena's where you can go and fight against hordes of enemys?

Yes.

Whats the limit of the level you charector can level up to?

32.

Can you be an all rounder eg have high stats in all skills at the same time?

Well, you need to decide which way you want to go, but you can also have "a little bit of everything" if you like. You can choose to be more of a fighter or more of a mage, or to learn more offensive or more defensive skills. You can choose attributes to make you stronger in combat or in magic, increase your maximum health points or rather have more magical power. There are many ways to go, but you can't go them all at once.

Will there be some tutorial at the begining of the game?

Yes, it is embedded into the story.

Will there be some sort of barter option so you can get lower prices on loot :)

No, but there are traders buying things for a special price if they are interesting to them. So in some cases it makes sense to look for a special trader if you have acquired certain valuable items and want to get some more money for them.

How does the death system work?

Big one :) This is a very versatile system spreading throughout the whole game. In terms of dying: If you have collected enough Twilight energy, you can resurrect and return to the game. In that case, you are thrown into the Twilight World when an enemy strikes a deadly blow at you. The screen display changes, and everything happens in slow motion. For a certain amount of time, you remain in this world. You can even use this as an advantage in combat. For example, if you died in the middle of a crowd of strong enemies, they will now walk away, assuming you are dead, so you can find a better position to continue combat. You can even sneak in some enemy's back to perform a nasty first strike when back in the world of the living. However you can also use the skill to just retreat from the fight to return later, or to sneak past guards without being seen. And much, much more.

Lastly will the game arrive in October (RPGFan.com seems to think so at the end of there preview)

dtp question :)

Wow. That's a LOT of questions! (Warning: Answers contain some minor spoilers!)

PrinceOfDeath wrote:Hows The Development doing, any highlights?

We're doing very well. The game is already in Beta stage now.

Can you Deul Weild?

You cannot dual-wield weapons, however there are two-handed weapons, and you can carry a shield with some weapons.

What sort of enemies will you encounter?

You won't encounter the classic orc or goblin, boar or spider - Venetica's enemies are very unique. Apart from human opponents, there are lots of mythica creatures like crab-like Grippers, flying monsters, huge war beasts from Africa, and many more. Also, as the game is dealing with the world of the dead, there are very special demons (like the Lectors - bred only to sniff books and find a very powerful Grimoire) and other undead creatures, as well as forsaken spirits etc. Also, some enemies can shape-shift using the twilight world, growing to become gigantic monsters!

Any cutscenes?

You are kidding :-) The game is crammed with cutscenes. There are over 300 small and large cutscenes in the game that enhance gameplay instead of becoming an interactive movie... They are not "rewards" for special quests but tell the story whereever necessary so that you are really close to the characters. It gets very emotional at places.

Multiple Difficulty Levels eg Easy+Medium+Hard?

Yes, you can choose.

Is it possible to Craft Weapons?

No, but you can learn Alchemy and mix potions.

Can you make your own potions to suit different needs? :)

Ah, there we go. Yes, you can.

Do Enemies Respawn?(I'm not one to Farm for XP though)

Some do - unless you erase their nests. The game really isn't all about farming, but if you like to increase your level by some farming, you can do so!

How do you earn Gold?

LOTS of different ways: Fulfil certain missions, rob people, find hidden treasure in old catacombs, loot enemies for gold and things to sell, crack old treasure chests, destroy objects to find items, sell the skin of a killed animal... and much, much more. Oh, and in Venice it's Ducats instead of gold, by the way :-)

Will there be jobs you can do other than Quests?

You can choose between 3 different guilds and they will give you work to do for which you are rewarded. These jobs are not necessary to fulfil the main quest. Other people offer jobs, too.

How many towns/cities are there?

There's one huge city called Venice which consists of many different areas - the Outer and Inner district, the Arsenal district, the harbor, and many more. Also, there are different villages you can visit, as well as some smaller places in the wilderness where you can find friendly (and hostile) people.

Can you go anywhere else other than Venice and Africa?

Yes, there are more locations. I won't reveal them all though...

What Languages is the Game going to be released in?

That's a DTP question :-)

Will there Humor in the game?

Some

How many weapons will there be?

I didn't cout them, but I guess it's far more than 100, and there are many specials among them.

How many sets of armour will there be?

I think Scarlett can wear 6 or 7 different sets.

How does Twilight power work, what advantages does it give you?

This is a very big area. Firstly it gives you the chance to resurrect after you have been killed, if you have enough Twilight energy left. Later in the game you can learn to use that power yourself at any time you wish and enter the world of the dead. Time moves in slow motion, and people can't see you any more. You can use this for surprise attacks or just to sneak past a guard. Later you will learn to see secret passages and the spirits of the dead. And if you grow even stronger, you can talk to the dead, gain mythical items from them and even challenge them to fight!

Will there be shades of morality in this game that's about consequences and how NPCs react towards you?

Yes. You can play heroic or villainous, and the way you play will affect the quests you receive, your reputation amongst the people, and how NPCs react. This even changes the ending of the game.

Will there be Day and Night Cycles?

Yes - not only does the game has a seamless day/night cylce: all citicens have their everyday schedule, their homes, and work to do. When it gets morning, you can watch them leaving their houses, and in the evening they will return. Likewise do the rogues and villains: When it gets dark, they flood the streets, looking for prey!

Will there be Slots In Weapons where you can put Augments to give the weapon a special feature?

This is possible with some special weapons, yes.

Can you jump freely?

No, but you can run, swim, and climb ladders.

How does the loot system work eg do you have to be a certain level you use item A etc?

No, you can use most of the items right away. But more powerful items are only available in later locations, and you need to have earned experience points and higher levels to reach some of them.

Are all NPC's Unique or will there be Duplicates with different Names?

You will find some extra characters that look alike, but we tried very hard to make most of them very unique.

Can you own a house or somewhere to store items?

You can carry all your items with you all the time. But still there are places in the game that you can call home.

Is there a lead platform?

As independent tech teams are working on the different platforms, there isn't a real Yes or No to that. Both platforms have very dedicated people working exclusively for the title.

Can Scarlet have change-able clothing eg tops pants?

She can wear different dresses and armor.

How long is the actual main story on its own?

If you play the game without playing any extra quests, it will probably take you 20 to 25 hours to do so. With side quests, you will need 40 to 50 hours or more. And that's without re-playing to test different skills or join a different guild!

Is Scarlet confined to one area until she reaches a certain point in the story?

It's more until she solved the puzzles to enter the next area. The areas need to be discovered while playing, they are not all available from the start.

How does the story start?

It starts with a midsummer celebration in the mountains. At that time, Scarlett doesn't know that the Undead Archon is already looking for her, having picked up her trail, knowing that she is the only threat to his plan... Therefore the celebration will not go on for much longer...

Re: Ask Deck 13 and DTP A Question

Postby NobodyC on 09.07.2009, 22:53:07

I have a few questions about the combat.

Are there special skills you can use with weapons?

If there are skills are they weapon specific or can you use them regardless of what weapon you're using?

How does leveling up effect combat? Do you get new combos, more strength, or new skills?

Are the enemies capable of blocking, countering, and/or grabbing? Any other tricks up their sleeves?

I hope that isn't too many questions. I'm very excited for this game and I wish you guys the best of luck.

Hi,

NobodyC wrote:Are there special skills you can use with weapons?

Yes, there are many different weapon skills. There are 4 major weapon types (swords, scythe, spear/shield, hammer/axe) and all have special skills that you can use. These can deal more damage, poison enemies, slow them down, and much more, plus there are new skills like blocking and combos that you can learn for each weapon type, all having different effects.

How does leveling up effect combat? Do you get new combos, more strength, or new skills?

When reaching a new level, you receive Attribute Points and Skill Points. The AP can be used immediately to increase strength, mental strength, constitution, and mental power. Depending on which attributes you want to increase, you can make your character more offensive or defensive or make him more a fighter or a mage.
Using the SP, you can go to teachers to learn new skills. There are more than 50 skills with different skill levels available, leaving you more than 100 options to shape your character, your playing and fighting style.

Are the enemies capable of blocking, countering, and/or grabbing? Any other tricks up their sleeves?

Yes, yes, and yes. They can block your attacks (if they are clever enough), an they can perform counter-attacks as well as dodging around you, trying to strike your back. If attacking in groups, they will also try to find a comfortable position (well, comfortable to them at least!) to attack. They can also do weapon combos and other nasty things. Not to mention the boss enemies who have some very special behavior...

Hope that helps :-)

I hope that isn't too many questions. I'm very excited for this game and I wish you guys the best of luck.

That's very nice to hear! Then why not go and tell other people who might like it and don't know of its existence yet? Go spread the word :-)
