Ask Deck 13 and DTP A Question

Postby PrinceOfDeath on 07.04.2009, 16:31:18

At the suggestion of Deck 13's Jan Deck 13 and DTP hopefully will be able to answer our questions.

My Questions

When will we get more information?
RPC would be great to have more information we have not heard what the game only seems to be dying out.
Will this game for a release this year?
Will we have more gameplay?
A full list of features?
English Fansite coming to you in the near future :)

And here we go, although your questions are not that easy to answer :?

PrinceOfDeath wrote:When will we get more information?

You can get them right here :) Also, in due time there will be much more to read on the Venetica website http://www.venetica-game.de - in English, too, of course! Further, I am sure that you will find more previews and other information in the games press soon. Right now there are many German previews of Venetica but the English ones are only just beginning to come in, but as soon as we have spotted any major articles about the game on the Web, we'll link to it from here.

Will this game for a release this year?

That's a DTP qestion  From Deck13's point of view I can tell you that we're making very good progress and are already very happy about the state of development.

Will we have more gameplay?

Erm, what exactly do you mean?

A full list of features?

That's going to be available very, very soon on the Venetica website!

The real-time combat system is very versatile. Firstly, there's the skill system allowing you to boost your combat abilities with more than 40 different skills. They are divided into physical (weapon) and mental (mostly magic) skills. Some are active skills and some have passive behavior, meaning that they change your combat values in some way or make you resistant against certain attacks.

There are 4 different weapon classes allowing totally different combat behavior. For example, the "spear and shield" class allows for a very defensive, protective combat, whereas the "hammer/axe" class is for those who like slow weapons with tremendous impact. The classic "sword" class is for the more quick and verstile fighter, and the "moonblade" class... I won't reveal too much about that one.

Different weapon types have different kinds of impacts on certain enemies. Some have a shell that is very hard to pierce with a sword but can be smashed with a hammer, for example.

There's also armor that protects the player. Different armor types are more effective regarding certain enemies and attacks, so it it wise to select the fitting armor if you enter a certain area.

There are many, many more things you can do in combat, like striking combos, blocking, dodging, and so on.

Also, the enemies have their own tactics and special moves and you have to learn to find their weak spots, or how to fight against more than one enemy at a time.

Not to mention the boss mosters...

As you can see, there's lots of cool stuff regarding combat.

Replayability: There are different guilds you can join, and there are lots and lots of sidequests and hidden secrets. Although the game only has one specific ending (with some nice changes, though, depending on how you played the game), there's lots of replay value. Especially if you are into exploring the more hidden spots of the game world.

Further, there are many different ways to develop your character: regarding a more offensive ore defensive style, or making him more a fighter or more a mage.

Plus, you can play as a honorable guy or solve the quest in a rather mean way.

So I think that's a 'yes'. :D

PrinceOfDeath wrote:How Far into development are you?

We're now at Beta stage, doing balancing, touch-ups and polishing. Oh, and debugging of course. We don't want to spoil it all by releasing a buggy game!

How does the loot system work?

Most of the defeated enemies can be looted. You then have a screen displaying your inventory as well as the defeated enemy's posessions. You can select the items you wish to acquire or just use the 'loot all' button to... loot them all. Items are sorted regarding weapons, armor, consumables and things to sell, as well as quest items. (You might also want to check the Dev Diaries on the Venetica website to find out more about the interface).

What about the Achievements when will they be released?

I guess they're going to be released when the game (or demo) is released.

Roughly how long will the game be and how many quests will be available If possible?

If your're an average player you'll probably take about 20 hours packed with action and drama. If you're more into exploring the whole game world, you'll surely need much more than 30 hours. There are approx. 30 separate quest parts for the main story plus roughly 50 side quests.

Any news please on the new site?

DTP needs to answer that one...

Will there be co-op or any online support?

We're focusing on one strong story with one main protagonist. Therefore we've decided to put all our efforts into the single player experience to make this one really stand out.

How many variations of bosses are there?

Lots! There are eight really special and scary bosses at the end of each chapter, and there are several smaller along the way.

Will there be anymore gameplay videos anytime soon?

I should hope so! :D

Does this game have level scaling(Where the difficulty of enemies scale to your level so its not to hard or easy)?

We're no big fans of this kind of balancing. With Venetica you can choose a general difficulty level but the enemies do not adapt. Personally I think it's strange if you can enter a cave and challenge a big boss when you're a Level 1 character just because the game thinks it needs to 'adapt'. Of course, if this is not the case, the game needs to be tailored in a way that clearly shows you which enemies you can currently attack and which you should return to when your character has reached a higher level. Also, we have a very gentle learning curve to get people into the game.

How big is the game world?

We haven't found out yet  Some day we'll take all the levels and calculate their size in square meters, but we've got more than 100 separate levels, so there really is plenty of space to explore! :D

Hi all,

we will inform you in time about our presence on exhibitions and conventions.
My 2 cents: We'll meet somewhere. :)

Currently there is no beta testing planned, and the demo release is not planned for a special date now.

But: You will get to know everything as soon as there is some news on it.

According to Gameshadow the game says October 2nd 2009; Yes I know not to believe 3rd party sites but is it a possibility its roughly around that timeframe?

PS Being a subscribed member (well not paying) to Gameshadow their recent newsletter has a competition going to get a free copy of Venetica; not sure if its USA only or non USA or what or even if this is a legit competition, if you want to know more I can give you the link on that too?
